Several tons of pressure on a few square millimetres forms every tablet, which is why tooling has to be hard, smooth and finished to the smallest tolerances. These punches and dies are made in-house, with careful matching of material and hardness.
Two steels are offered: OHNS (T), an oil-hardened non-shrinking tungsten steel to AISI O1, and HCHC, a high-carbon high-chromium steel to AISI D3. Surfaces are hard chrome plated, and hardness runs 51–60 HRC. Tooling follows EURO and IPT standards, or is made as special tooling in any shape, including multi-tip and Polo type.
Each set is an upper punch, a lower punch and a die. The upper punch forms the tablet's upper cavity and travels 5–6 mm into the die bore; its tip is generally 8–9 mm. The lower punch tip, 25–28 mm long, stays in the die bore and ejects the tablet. Fitting and removal are trouble-free. Request a quote for a customised tablet punch and die set.
